Bordeaux wine festival 2010 dates announced

The Bordeaux Wine Festival, to be held from June 24-27 2010 in the heart of the city, is to showcase local cuisine alongside its regional wines.

Set along the 2km stretch of the Garonne River waterfront, a UNESCO listed world heritage site, the event, held every two years, will feature wines from 80 appellations from Bordeaux to Aquitaine as well as major Bordeaux brands.

Key events include tutored tastings and food workshops by top chefs divulging their trade secrets.

Bordeaux plans new venue for wine culture

New centre will become tourist hub for wine

The mayor of Bordeaux, Alain Juppé, announced at Vinexpo, the world’s largest wine fair, that the city will be investing in a new wine culture venue to be opened by April 2010.


The venue similar to the concept of Vinopolis in the UK, will explain the history of wine, but will act as a tourist hub to guide visitors through the region and hospitality centre with restaurants and bars.

Top chef Heston Blumenthal links up with Mandarin Oriental Hotel

New restaurant will open in central London location in 2010

Sherry loving chef, Heston Blumenthal, the owner of the three Michelin starred Fat Duck in Bray, Berkshire, has joined forces with the prestigious Mandarin Oriental Hotel to open a new restaurant in 2010.

Blumenthal, who also owns The Hinds Head pub in the same village, has won international acclaim for his multi-sensory approach to cooking. As a fan of sherry he has undertaken scientific research to enhance British gastronomy.

Champagne Lanson hails a cab

Spot a Lanson-branded taxi around London during Wimbledon fortnight to win a year’s supply of Champagne.

Champagne Lanson, sponsors of the Wimbledon Championships, has launched a competition on Facebook for budding photographers to win a year’s supply of its Champagne.

The Champagne house is asking people to take a picture of a branded Lanson black cab, upload it on the website, and the best picture will win the prize.

Cordier launches wine keeping system

Fancy a glass of wine but don’t want to finish the bottle? Maison Cordier, one of the largest Bordeaux wine trading houses, has launched a clever device that will allow wine lovers to open that special bottle of wine or Champagne and savour it for up to a month.

The wine keeping system (WiKeep) fastens onto the bottle neck and uses CO2 and Argon gas (which both occur naturally in the atmosphere) to prevent air and bacteria from entering the bottle and contaminating the wine.

Actor buys 50% stake in Spanish winery
Actor Antonio Banderas has bought 50% shares in a winery in his home country of Spain.

The actor, who plays the sly cat in the hit movie Shrek among others, chose to work with Anta Bodegas in the Ribera Del Duero region of Spain.
