UK supermarket predicts Chinese wine and Canadian cuisine will take the UK market by storm

Waitrose food and wine buyers have identified Canadian cuisine and Chinese wine will tantalise the British taste buds in the future.

They tipped Canadian lobster mushrooms – pink mushrooms with a seafood flavour – and two new types of berries to make a big impact in British stores.
 
Saskatoon berries are said to be the “new blueberries”, while cloudberries contain four times more vitamin C than an orange and can be used in beer and chocolate.Read more

The UK supermarkets are expecting a boom in low-alcohol wine following research that shows a demand beyond the traditional market of women with a sweet tooth.

Low-alcohol wines have historically been sweet and uncomplicated, but more sophisticated varieties will soon be available after the European Union legalised techniques to remove alcohol from wine.Read more

Greenbee Specialist Travel, part of the John Lewis Partnership, is offering wine tours with a twist. From September 2009, it will be offering a collection of expert-led wine tours and gourmet breaks, which have been developed in association with sister company Waitrose.

Six wine buyers and wine educators will take small groups on an adventure around some of the most beautiful countryside in France, Italy and Spain. The groups will have the chance to explore rolling vineyards, visit atmospheric cellars and meet the wine makers.

The cellars will be a mix of famous names and small wine producers. “It’s a chance for people to learn about wines from the “supermarket shelves to the vineyards,” said Dave Thornton, Waitrose Wine Direct product manager, responsible for the Loire tour. click here to find out moreRead more

Supermarket launches its first ever World of Wine Showcase

Waitrose is taking its customers on a round-the-world trip in a bid to encourage wine lovers to be more adventurous.

From 2 September to 27 September the supermarket will launch its first ever World of Wine Showcase, where its wine team has chosen special parcels from the world’s best wine-making regions to encourage its customers to explore some of the more interesting grape varieties.Read more
